My partner and I headed down to San Jose for PantheaCon 2012, and then took a leisurely drive back up 1 and 101 to get back home to Oregon. Along the way we took some photos of some of the neater things we saw; I'll be adding some of my faves over the next few days.

After PantheaCon, we escaped from San Jose and headed over to check out Muir Woods northwest of the city. We stopped at this little rest stop once we were out of the urban area, and I took a few pictures of the landscape, since it was so unusual to me. This was my favorite shot.

Man, you're really making me want to take a trip down HWY 1 now and go through the Muir Woods! haha Forget the beauty available in my own state sometimes. Beautiful shot!

Just curious, have you ever been to fern canyon? It's one of those must-see places ^_^

It's up north I think just past Orick (on HWY 101). On the left of the highway (if you're headed north) you'll see an open elk viewing area, and follow that road. When we went we had to drive over two streams, so I wouldn't recommend bringing a nice vehicle or low car, haha. But you essentially follow that road 'till the end, there's a place to pay the courtesy fee, then you go through a short hike and walah, you're there. It's possible to travel up the canyon until you reach a trail (on left) that can then take you along the top of it, but not too near the edge except for at a couple of parts. This place is beautiful, and some part of Jurassic Park was filmed there =) If you're EVER in the area, seriously, let me know and I'll totally take you there ^_^ (also I just found the Horse Mountain Botanical Area on Friday, and I'd say that's another must-see, haha...get BEAUTIFUL views of the surrounding mountain ranges, and I guess the plants there are harder to come by...lots of emphasis on websites about them having Jeffery Pines and I guess if you look around you can find pitcher plants and other neat plants)

Here's a webpage about it:
